Macao, the Chinese special administrative region (SAR) often twinned with Hong Kong, is known as the Las Vegas of Asia. But travelers who are willing to dig in a little deeper can explore Macanese culture, which mixes Portuguese, Chinese and Southeast Asian heritages. Macao is comprised of two islands – the north one, Macao itself, and its southern neighbor Taipa. “In Asia, [people] think that Macao is full of casinos, and I think they do not understand the other parts of Macao,” says Lai. That means that they can live in Macao without a work visa and do not need a company sponsoring them.

We are buying 100 shares of Wynn Resorts (WYNN) at roughly $96.89 apiece. Before the Covid pandemic, the company generated about 75% of its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) from its Macao properties. And since the Macao properties' cost structure was reduced to minimize losses during the lockdowns, the operating leverage as revenues recover has been both notable and underappreciated by the market. Despite recent weakness due to fresh Covid concerns, the May CGR numbers numbers for Macao indicate that there has not been any material slowdown in gaming. Wynn stock is still up nearly 17% year-to-date, and we believe China's long-term economic recovery is on track.

Wynn Resorts (WYNN) delivered a much better-than-expected first quarter Wednesday, with the casino. It appears the miss could be attributed to individual wealthy gamblers frequenting Wynn Palace at the expense of Wynn Macao, which historically is more exposed to groups and tours. Las Vegas Wynn Las Vegas continues to post big results, generating an all-time record adjusted EBITDAR of $231.6 million. There may be a lot of talk out there about a pullback in consumer spending, but it isn't showing up at Wynn Las Vegas. On a hold normalized basis, Wynn Las Vegas' EBITDAR margins expanded 300 basis points year-over-year and 1,400 basis points from the first quarter of 2019.

“Back then, it definitely wasn’t cool to be into theme parks, but I was obsessed,” Jeffs, 39, tells CNN. Jeffs points to the immersive “Pacific Rim: Shatterdome Strike” ride at Trans Studio Cibubur, part of Indonesia’s largest theme park chain, as an example. “When I was growing up, theme park design was often dismissed as a rinky-dink, second-class artistic discipline simply because it was rarely well done. “That first summer, we drove 10,000 miles and hit up virtually any theme park that had managed to re-open,” he says. With mandatory quarantines lifted, ferry and airline service resuming, and licenses renewed, casinos hope 2023 marks a new beginning for the world's preeminent gambling destination, Macao. The Macao government awarded six companies new 10-year concessions to operate their integrated casino resorts. This month, Macao has seen an increase in tourism from mainland China from visitors trying to get an mRNA Covid vaccine. A rise in Covid infections around China caused November gaming revenue in Macao to fall 23% from October and plummet 99% from November 2019 pre-pandemic levels, according to government data. Fitch estimates Singapore will achieve 80% of its pre-pandemic gaming revenue in 2022, and 95% in 2023.

China's immigration bureau said mainland residents will be able to travel to Macao from Nov. 1 using an online visa system rather than in-person applications, a move that could increase travel to the world's largest gambling hub. In-person applications have been required for the past two and a half years due to Covid-19 restrictions. All of Macao's 700,000 residents are mandated to take rapid antigen tests daily during the period, the government said.
